Metta is the practice of "Be Friending" usually translated as Loving Kindness.
For some of us learning to be " loving and kind" to our bodies, our minds... even to our own families can seem to be one our greatest challenges. But learning to "Be Friend" these challenges including our desires and aversions can bring forth our greatest opportunity for transformation. Metta is a well spring of generosity and a strong foundation towards compassion(empathy), bringing forth joy, humor & appreciation for all living beings and life its self. In combination, these ultimately lead to equanimity (peace and contentment.) Ah...Happiness!
We practice the physical asanas with kindness to purify and heal the body by making it balanced, strong, flexible, sensitive, energized and relaxed.
We increase our mental stamina by training the heart/mind to concentrate and sustain a focused attention.
We add breath work which fuels both the mind and body.
